K2 Case Goes Federal In New Haven

One man has been federally charged with distributing synthetic cannabinoids.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A city man was federally charged with distributing synthetic cannabinoids known as K2 and Spice. Quentin Staggers, 47, distributed the drugs on July 20, Aug. 15 and Aug. 16, according to an indictment.

He was arrested Aug. 16. The New Haven City Green was the site of dozens of overdoses Aug. 15. To sign up for New Haven breaking news alerts and more, click here.

In total there were 47 people transported to the hospital for K2 overdoses during the multi-day epidemic. There were more than 100 ambulance runs as some people overdosed several times.

The case is being investigated by the DEA New Haven Task Force and the New Haven Police Department.
