Letter to the Editor: Tesoro Will Fight for Schools

A Trumbull resident writes about first selectman candidate Vicki Tesoro's knowledge of schools.

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my support for Vicki Tesoro because I know she will fight for our schools. Vicki understands the direct correlation between quality education and the attractiveness of a town and resulting home values. She cares about the education of our children. She knows class sizes and the availability of AP, science, and foreign language classes matter to their futures. And that our kids will be the custodians of our futures, and that matters.

I have known Vicki since we were both PTA presidents. I had joined the PTA because I thought I could make a difference, and I found a kindred spirit in Vicki. But though I moved on once my kids graduated, Vicki did not. She stayed and continued to fight for everyone’s kids. We both understand the importance of continuing to adequately fund our schools.

We can’t keep cutting out programs and think it won’t matter, because it will. When our kids don’t have enough foreign language courses to meet the criteria of many colleges, it matters. It matters that our elementary classes are kept small enough to reach all kinds of learners, so they are better prepared when they move on to middle school and then high school.

For years, Vicki has worked hard to make sure our kids are making good choices that keep them clear-headed and safe. Her leadership in developing with the THS Underage Drinking Forum and her work with TPAUD (Trumbull Partnership Against Underage Drinking and Drugs) speaks volumes about her commitment to the youth of Trumbull.

So that’s why I’m supporting Vicki Tesoro. I hope you will too.

Sincerely,
