TRUMBULL, CT — A man accused of stealing items from a store at the Trumbull Mall and threatening security with a knife was arrested Thursday, according to police.

In a news release, Police Lt. Brian Weir said officers received a report around 4 p.m. of a robbery involving a man who pulled a knife on JCPenney loss prevention officers.

According to Weir, loss prevention officers noticed Jonathan Sierra, 41, of Bridgeport, inside of the store with an empty bag and saw him conceal multiple pairs of jeans and a watch inside it.

When Sierra left the store, loss prevention officers tried to stop him and retrieve the stolen items, but Sierra pulled the bag away, took a black knife out of his jacket pocket and displayed it in a threatening manner, Weir said. He then left the store and loss prevention officers lost sight of him.

Police later found Sierra sitting at the corner of Main Street and Old Town Road in Bridgeport, where he boarded a bus. Officers were able to stop the bus nearby and arrested Sierra, Weir said.

Officers found a folding knife in Sierra's possession, Weir said. No injuries were reported.

Sierra was charged with first-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny. He was held on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court later this month, Weir said.
