TRUMBULL, CT — A New York man accused of driving a truck with a stolen license plate wanted in connection to a number of burglaries and other crimes in multiple states was arrested Thursday in Trumbull, according to police.

In a news release, Police Lt. Brian Weir said an officer spotted Michael Simpson, 40, of Walden, N.Y., driving the Dodge Ram pick-up truck north on Daniels Farm Road around 8:30 a.m.

As the officer followed the truck, Simpson tried to elude police by turning down various side streets. As more officers arrived in the area, police were able to stop Simpson after he drove onto the cul-de-sac of Scenic Hill Road and arrested him, according to Weir.

Police confirmed the truck's license plate had been reported stolen out of New York, and officers found several license plates and other items in Simpson's possession that were confirmed to be stolen from New Jersey and Pennsylvania, Weir said.

"Trumbull police are assisting law enforcement agencies in other jurisdictions where several ongoing investigations have confirmed that this Dodge was involved in various residential burglaries and a series of other crimes in multiple states," Weir said in a news release.

Simpson was charged with sixth-degree larceny and possession of stolen property. He was held on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in December for these charges, Weir said.

Simpson was also charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating without a driver's license, two counts of possession of stolen license plates, no insurance and misuse of plates. He was held on an additional $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court again later in December for these charges, according to Weir.
