Man Arrested for Home Invasion/Sex Assault in Trumbull: Update

He is also facing charges for a fatal hit-and-run accident in Bridgeport and numerous Trumbull burglaries, according to police.

TRUMBULL, CT- A man who was recently charged with a number of Trumbull burglaries was also arrested after he broke into a woman's Old Town Road home, held her at gunpoint and sexually assaulted her, police said.

Geraldo Maldonado, 20, of Bridgeport was charged with the sexual assault Thursday by Trumbull Police, said Lt. Leonard Scinto, police spokesman.

Maldonado broke into the victim's home on Oct. 13 around 3 a.m., Scinto said. She found him pressing what she believed to be a gun to her back. He took her to an area in the rear yard and sexually assaulted her.

Maldonado was initially arrested by Trumbull Police for a February burglary and was recently charged with additional burglaries.

Police continued to pursue the sexual assault case and worked with the state forensic lab and other police agencies in the state.

Maldonado was about to make bond on May 17, but Bridgeport Police served him with an arrest warrant related to a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on April 18. David Anderson, 22, was killed in the crash and Maldonado fled on foot, according to the Connecticut Post. Anderson was a key witness in a murder case.

On May 18 Trumbull Police obtained an arrest warrant that charges Maldonado with home invasion, aggravated sexual assault, first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, first-degree burglary, first-degree threatening and risk of injury to a minor. He was given a court set bond of $1 million.

Here is the timeline of Maldonado's alleged activities according to police:

  • Oct. 13, 2015: Home invasion/sexual assault on Old Town Road.
  • Feb. 2.: Maldonado is charged with a Sunnycrest Road burglary and carrying a pellet gun. He eventually makes bond.
  • April 18: He is involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident in Bridgeport.
  • May 13: He is charged for four separate burglaries in Trumbull that occurred between November and January and is given a combined $200,000 bond.
  • May 17: Maldonado is about to make $200,000 bond on the burglary charges, but Bridgeport Police serve the fatal accident warrant and an additional $200,000 bond is placed on him.
  • May 18/19: Trumbull Police obtain and serve the sexual assault/home invasion warrant and Maldonado is returned to Bridgeport Correctional Center. The bond is $1 million.
