Man Threatened to Shoot Officers in Trumbull: PD

A .40 caliber handgun was located near the scene, police said.

TRUMBULL, CT — A man threatened to shoot officers after he crashed his vehicle in Trumbull Friday night, according to police.

Officers located Latrell Eppes, 22, of Bridgeport on Lakeside Drive during his attempted escape, said Lt. Douglas Smith, police spokesman.

"Eppes indicated that he had a gun and threatened to shoot the officers, but was wrestled to the ground when he started to charge at them," Smith said.

A .40 caliber Bersa Thunder handgun was recovered in a resident's garage can nearby. The gun had its serial number removed.

Eppes collided with two parked cars on Old Town Road near Frenchtown Road. Two other occupants fled the vehicle along with Eppes, police said. The other occupants weren't located.

Eppes was charged with:

  • Criminal possession of a firearm and high capacity magazine
  • Carrying a weapon without a permit and while under the influence
  • Altering the ID of a gun
  • Threatening and interfering with an officer
  • Reckless operation
  • Evading responsibility

He was held on a $105,000 bond.
