As NBA Tipoff Approaches, We Look at Pro Hoopsters Who Attended High School in Connecticut
The number of Nutmeg State scholastic players who have made it to the NBA or ABA since 1949 is surprisingly small.
With opening night of the NBA season upon us this evening, and the continuing sad saga of St. Thomas Aquinas alum Lamar Odom still in the news, Patch got to wondering about how many Connecticut high school basketball players have made it to the NBA or the now-defunct ABA, the high-octane league with the red, white and blue ball which operated from 1967 to 1976.
One would think there would be a large number, given the astounding success of the UConn men’s basketball program. However, the majority of Husky standouts have been recruited from other states, leaving the total of professionals who played scholastically in the Nutmeg State at a surprisingly low 46, according to Basketball-Reference.com.
