New Trumbull Police Hire Carries On Family Legacy
The Trumbull Police Department recently welcomed the son of a retired officer, who hopes to follow in his father's footsteps, to its force.

TRUMBULL, CT — The Trumbull Police Department recently welcomed the son of a retired officer, who hopes to follow in his father's footsteps and carry on his family's legacy, to the town's police force.
Certified Police Officer Joseph Dzurenda Jr. was hired by the department following the retirement of his father, Officer Joseph Dzurenda Sr., who served the town for over 30 years, according to a news release provided by the department.
Dzurenda Sr. was hired by the Trumbull Police Department in December 1987, where he worked in the patrol division before his retirement in September 2022, according to police.

Dzurenda Jr. was initially hired by the Monroe Police Department in September 2019, where he attained his police and Emergency Medical Technician certifications before transferring to the Trumbull Police Department to follow his lifelong dream of becoming a Trumbull police officer like his father, police said.
Dzurenda Jr. is a graduate of Saint Joseph’s High School in Trumbull. He attended Curry College, where he graduated and obtained his bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice management and minored in politics and history.

Dzurenda Jr. then attended Western Connecticut State University, where he achieved his master of science degree in history, as well as Southern Connecticut State University, where he received his teaching certificate in history and social studies.
He is also the first certified police officer hired by the department since the pension benefit was restored, according to police.
Dzurenda Jr.'s uncle, Thomas Dzurenda, has also served as a Trumbull police officer since January 1989, where he also works in the patrol division, police said.
Police also noted the department is currently looking for additional qualified police officer applicants to fill 10 vacancies and bring the staff to its maximum authorized level.
