Patch Picks: In Honor of Mom

The Discovery Museum and Planetarium located at 4450 Park Ave. in Bridgeport is hosting special guest Peter Yarrow from Peter, Paul & Mary this Sunday. Take mom and the rest of the family to the Discovery Museum for this all age event and sing along. Mom (and dad, too) will love to hear their favorite tunes by a music legend! The show starts at 4 p.m. and tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Prices are as follows: adults $15, children $12 (ages 3-17), $10 for museum members. The Beardsley Zoo located at 1875 Noble Ave. in Bridgeport is celebrating Mother's Day in its own way. In honor of the special day, mom is admitted free! Hours of operation are from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily.  Admission for children ages 3 to 11 is just $10. Children under 3 are free. Come spend the day looking at exotic Siberian Tigers, Yellow Anacondas, Gold Howler Monkeys, an American Bald Eagle and much more. located at 100 Quarry Road in Trumbull is a great Mother's Day outing. New releases that mom will enjoy this week include "African Cats" (G), narrated by Samuel L. Jackson which as show times running from noon until after 9 p.m. Also playing this weekend is the hit animated feature "Rio" (G) which is also playing throughout the day and with the option of 3D. Other movies include "Soul Surfer," the inspiring true story of Bethany Hamilton, "Prom," (PG), "Hop," (PG) and "Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil" (PG). Barnes and Noble Booksellers located at 1076 Post Road East in Westport is holding a free open poetry and mic session inside their store this Sunday. Downtown Cabaret Theatre located at 263 Golden Hill St. in Bridgeport presents "Goldie Locks." There are two showings on both Saturdays and Sundays at noon and again at 2:30 p.m. "Goldie Locks and The Three Bears" will brighten your day with lots of musical numbers, laughs and colorful characters as they visit The Big Top Circus. A telling tale of friendship and lessons on life, Goldie Locks is a great way to enjoy Mother's Day with the whole family. Tickets are $18 per person.
