Patch Picks: Trumbull Day, the Zoo and Pilates on the Beach

This weekend also offers minigolf at the Library.

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo located at 1875 Noble Ave. in Bridgeport presents its part of "Trumbull Day." All Trumbull residents are invited to the zoo this Saturday anytime for a reduced admission price of $5 with proper identification. Town officials will be present alongside business and civic leaders. Come down for a fun-filled day with the animal exhibits, carousel rides and refreshments. Trumbull Day at the zoo is presented in partnership with the Town of Trumbull. Also Saturday is Animal Enrichment Day which will give all visitors the opportunity to learn about how the zoo staff do their jobs. There will be talks, demonstrations and a display of enrichment items used by staff on an every day basis. Also, stick around until 2:30 p.m. and take part in their raffle! The Black Rock Pilates Studio presents Beach Pilates at Sea Bright Beach this Saturday. Come down to the Sea Bright Avenue beach at 7:15 a.m. for a 45-minute pilates session for $12. No sign up is required! This is the 7th annual beach pilates so bring a beach towel, some sunblock and get in shape out in nature. Sea Bright Beach is easily accessible and doesn't require parking permits. The Jacky Durell Penfield Pavilion II located at 401 Fairfield Beach Road presents the Welcome Club Annual Clambake. Come by the newly renovated pavilion at Fairfield Beach this Friday at 7 p.m. for their annual clambake and silection auction. There will be dinner, dancing and prize drawings benefiting Autism Speaks. The event will be catered by Sea House Clambakes. This is a BYOB event! The New Canaan Nature Center presents the Summer Campfire Series this Saturday starting at 4 p.m. Gather the family for the kick-off of the camping season where you'll be able to pitch your tent at the nature center with a group of other families. Professional naturalists will lead a twilight trail walk, facilitate a cookout dinner and campfire, early morning breakfast and pond adventures. The event is sponsored by TD Bank and will be located at 144 Oenoke Ridge Road. The cost is $75 per tent for members, or $100 for non-members. For more information visit newcanaannature.org.

The Black Rock Community Council's History Committe presents "The Doudon House Museum & Boat Tour of Black Rock Harbor." This Saturday, come down and tour a local museum inside of a seaport home then gather onboard a boat cruise of historic Black Rock. Take a one-hour Tour of the 1893 Dundon House Museum starting at 11 a.m. Bruce Williams of Captain’s Cove will be in attendance to answer questions. Then go on a guided boat tour of historic Black Rock Harbor aboard a 40-foot Navy launch with narration. You will enjoy scenic views such as St. Mary’s By The Sea during this one-hour ride.
