Petition Calls For Enhanced Equipment, Conditions At Trumbull Stop & Shop
The petition, created earlier this month, has garnered nearly 350 signatures as of Wednesday afternoon.

TRUMBULL, CT — A petition calling for enhanced equipment and improved conditions at a Stop and Shop grocery store in Trumbull has garnered more than 400 signatures as of Thursday night.
The petition, titled "Enhance Equipment and Conditions at Stop & Shop Trumbull CT," was launched earlier this month on change.org by Trumbull resident Susan O'Shea.
In her petition's description, O'Shea said she was "deeply concerned" about the current state of her town's "primary local grocery store," located at 100 Quality Street.

"This is not just a commercial establishment," the petition reads, "it's an integral part of our daily lives. However, the equipment and overall conditions at this store are far from satisfactory."
The petition claims the Trumbull store's refrigeration units "often malfunction leading to spoilage of fresh produce, produce and meats are routinely expired" and the store's "general cleanliness and maintenance leave much to be desired."

The petition calls for Stop and Shop management or the grocery chain's headquarters to take immediate action.
"We request them to upgrade their equipment and improve overall conditions for a better shopping experience for all residents," the petition reads.
On Wednesday alone, the petition was signed by over 190 people. In total, the petition has accumulated 402 signatures toward a goal of 500 signatures as of Thursday night.
In a statement sent to Patch, Stop and Shop spokesperson Jennifer Brogan said the grocery chain was grateful to have served as Trumbull's neighborhood grocer since opening there in 1979 and appreciated residents reaching out to share their feedback.
"While our Trumbull location is not currently scheduled for a remodel in 2024, we've continued to make improvements to the customer experience in recent years," Brogan said, "including the addition of online pickup and the "flashfood" program to help reduce our environmental footprint."
Brogan noted the safety and quality of Stop and Shop's products is something the company takes very seriously.
"We have check points throughout the day to ensure proper storage temperatures are met," Brogan said, "and we continuously monitor our systems and products from both a quality and safety standpoint."
Brogan also noted the company stands by its commitment to quality with its freshness guarantee.
"If any perishable product purchased in our meat, seafood, produce, dairy, bakery, floral, or deli department does not meet a customer's standards for freshness and quality," Brogan said, "they can return the item and will receive double their money back."
Patch has reached out to the town of Trumbull and the Trumbull Chamber Of Commerce for further comment.
Some comments on the petition expressed concerns about the Trumbull store's appearance and selection, while others voiced support for the store's current state.
"I think the people of Trumbull deserve a better experience while shopping," one recent comment reads. "The company should not be taking advantage of the Trumbull people who frequent this store."
Another commenter noted they knew someone who worked at the Trumbull store before being transferred.
"We shop [at the Trumbull store] frequently," the comment reads.
