Police, Trumbull Mall, Team Up with New Substation

The facility was relocated after the mall completed substantial renovations.

Trumbull Police and other area officers have a new home-away-from-home in the Westfield Trumbull Mall.

Police officials from Trumbull, Easton, Darien and Bridgeport joined Trumbull Police Commission members and First Selectman Tim Herbst and mall officials in opening the classically designed office space.

First Selectman said the mall has become a "jewel in Trumbull's crown" and part of an economic "renaissance," and that the substation adds to that.

Mall Senior General Manager Bryan Gaus said the substation represents cooperation between Westfield and the Police Department.

Police Chief Thomas Kiely credited all involved, including Deputy Chief Glenn Byrnes, who helped design it. It features photos of Trumbull police officers on the inside and classical-looking green globes labelled "Police" on the outside.

Westfield Marketing Director Paul Sabina said the substation will:

  • Provide a workspace for officers on‐duty at the mall or working patrol duties nearby;
  • Provide a private area for officers to take complaints, conduct interviews, and facilitate investigations
  • A police department computer where they can complete reports and other paperwork without returning to headquarters, thus allowing the officers to remain available for other emergencies.
  • Have medical equipment and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) stored at this location, available for officers who are assigned on foot patrol at the mall on weekends and holidays.
  • Provide the office space at no cost to the Town in order to maintain the long time working relationship between the police department and the mall’s security personnel.
  • Be the first and only remote location to provide Trumbull police officers with this type of workspace and accessibility to perform their duties.
  • Contain an AED

The substation is on the first floor next to Journeys.
