SHU Buys Former Trumbull Hardware Store Land for $4.8M

Sacred Heart University has bought the Henderson Hardware land on Reservoir Avenue for $4.75 million, but no plans have been filed for the site yet.

"There are no immediate plans for this property, as it was purchased for the long term benefit of the University," said SHU Spokeswoman Funda Alp. SHU has a campus at 7 Cambridge Drive in Trumbull.

Trumbull Economic & Community Development Director Ed Lavernoich said the land contains the former hardware store, which has since moved to Bridgeport. The parcel is across from Lindeman Drive.

"There's reason to believe they'll be building" on it, but Lavernoich added he was not sure when.

The land is located at 2300 Reservoir Ave. and was owned by Henry Stern Trust of 68 Seeley Road, according to Visionappraisal.com. The parcel was assessed for taxes at $2.2 million (70 percent of market value), and appraised at $3.2 million, the website showed.
