St. Joseph Boys Lacrosse Reaches Class S Semifinals

Mike Marini scores three goals for Cadets, who defeat Ledyard, 8-1

After defeating defending state champion Weston in the first round, the boys lacrosse team handled No. 4 seed Ledyard on Saturday.

Mike Marini scored three goals for the Cadets, who defeated Ledyard 8-1 to advance to the semifinals against top seed Somers on Wednesday at a time and site to be determined.

St. Joseph, which concluded the regular season with only an 8-8 record in the rugged FCIAC, has played in the Class S final in each of the last two seasons, winning a state championship in 2009 and losing in the title game last year to Weston.

Pat Mulligan added two goals for the 12th-seeded Cadets while Brian Bacarella, Pat Corcoran and Peter Vallerie each scored once for St. Joseph.

The Cadets held a 3-1 lead at the intermission before outscoring Ledyard 5-0 in the second half.

Somers, which is undefeated, advanced to the semifinals with a 19-6 victory over Old Saybrook.
