St. Joseph Defeats Trumbull, 35-24

Jordan Vazzano tossed three TD passes for the Cadets, who finished the season at 4-6 after winning their final three games

Last year, St, Joseph and Trumbull were preparing for the state playoffs as they met in their annual Thanksgiving Day clash.

A year later, only pride was on the line, but that didn't make the victory any less sweeter for the Cadets.

Jordan Vazzano threw three touchdown passes as St. Joseph defeated Trumbull 35-24 to conclude the season at 4-6. The Cadets, who suffered major graduation losses, finished with a three-game winning streak.

Trumbull, which lost to Xavier in the Class LL championship last year, dropped its final seven games of the season to finish at 2-7.

Trumbull's Billy O'Keefe (35 yards) and St. Joseph's E.J. Sheehan (24 yards) opened the game by trading interception returns for touchdowns.

T.J. Smart then gave Trumbull a 12-6 lead on a 30-yard TD run before Vazzano's 8-yard TD strike to Mark Hirschbeck gave the Cadets a 13-12 edge.

Brandon Moore's 77-yard TD pass to Michael Uus put the Eagles back in front in the seesaw affair.

But the Cadets scored the next three touchdowns to take control. Vazzano started the flurry with a 10-yard TD pass to Jake Pelletier to end the first-half scoring.

In the fourth quarter, Mike Pulaski's 3-yard TD run and Vazzano's 20-yard TD pass to Denzel Mosvoca gave St. Joseph a 35-18 cushion. Trumbull got the final score on Moore's 50-yard TD pass to Uus.

St. Joseph was awarded the newly renamed Jerry McDougall trophy, named in honor of the legendary former Trumbull coach who passed away in October.
