State Sen. Hwang Pledges Support to Center for Family Justice

The center is a resource for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse and serves the Trumbull area.

State Sen. Tony Hwang attended The Center for Family Justice’s Legislative Breakfast and pledged continued support to prevent domestic violence and promote recovery.

“The Center for Family Justice helps victims become survivors,” Hwang said. “The Center’s success stories are inspirational, and at the State Capitol I want to do all I can to help people learn the tools needed to help themselves – and their families – become whole. We must continue to move forward in preventing domestic violence and encourage victims to seek protection and safety away from the abuse.”

The Center is the primary resource for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse and prevention education in Eastern Fairfield County, including Trumbull, Monroe, Bridgeport and Fairfield. It provides age-appropriate and culturally informed prevention, intervention, advocacy and education.

During the breakfast, Sen. Hwang was joined by St. Joseph High School students and their teacher, Nancy Lessard.

Education is an important ingredient of intervention,” Lessard said. “Encouraging and arming the youth with what they need to champion behind such a cause leads to an even better indication that they will not tolerate domestic or sexual abuse of any kind...ever.”
