Trio of Musical Treasures

Subscribe to the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra's Three Performances in 2016 for One Low Price!

Three concerts, each replete with three masterpieces… performed by one extraordinary, world-class orchestra, your Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra… and all this for one incredibly low subscription rate, starting at $71/$57 for seniors. That’s the RSO’s Winter & Spring 2016 Concert Series!

The music begins on Valentine’s Day weekend, Saturday, February 13th, with the aptly entitled concert Redemption Through Love with music by Wagner, Schumann and Rimsky-Korsakov under the baton of guest conductor Petko Dimitrov. In Wagner’s Flying Dutchman Overture we are introduced to the Dutchman, a seafarer destined to roam the high seas for all eternity… until he is redeemed by the selfless love of his betrothed, Senta! Robert & Clara Schumann’s love story is the stuff of romantic legend! Schumann’s rarely heard gem, his Second Symphony, includes a secret message to his immortal beloved. Finally, Scheherazade saves her life, and wins the Sultan’s heart in the process, through 1,001 nights of tales, a story beguilingly told in Rimsky-Korsakov’s all-time audience favorite! Perfect music for the most romantic days of the year!

They were colleagues, they were friends. They even played chamber music together! Classical Contemporaries features the music of two classical-era titans, Mozart and Haydn! On Saturday, March 5th, the RSO travels to Wilton’s spectacular Clune Auditorium for a program featuring Mozart’s immortal Symphony #35, the “Haffner,” paired with Haydn’s Symphony #67. As an added treat, the concert features RSO Principal Hornist Sara Della Posta and friend Robert Hoyle in Telemann’s Concerto for Two Horns.

Finally, the RSO returns to Ridgefield for their season ending performance on May 14th, First And Last. Paired on this concert are two Germanic Meisterwerke- Gustav Mahler’s First Symphony, the fervent, vigorous and dramatic outpourings of a young artist, contrasted with Richard Strauss’ autumnal, impossibly beautiful Four Last Songs, his valedictory works as a composer. Soloist in the Strauss is Metropolitan Opera soprano Jennifer Black. The performance opens with American composer David Diamond’s paean to Shakespeare’s immortal play, Music for Romeo & Juliet. A perfect ending to another perfect season of live, professional orchestral music in Ridgefield.

A trio, a trifecta, a triptych of incredible concerts, in unparalleled performances by your RSO under the baton of Music Director Jerry Steichen! Enjoy all three concerts for one amazing low price, as low as $19 per concert! At these prices you can’t afford not to subscribe!
