Trumbull Bows To Stamford 14-6 In Junior Legion Semifinals

Trumbull had reached the semifinals with a 2-1, eight-inning win over Southington

Trumbull fell to Stamford 14-6 Saturday in the semifinals of the junior American Legion state tournament at Muzzy Field in Bristol.

Trumbull rallied from an 3-0 deficit to go up 4-3, but Stamford erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the third to grab a 10-4 lead and take control.

Stamford advanced to the semifinals after scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat West Hartford 5-4 on Thursday. It will face Bristol in Sunday's final, which is set for 1 p.m. at Muzzy Field.

Bristol advanced with a 1-0 win over top seed Bethel on Saturday. Bristol actually lost to Ridgefield 8-5 in the quarterfinals, but it was awarded a victory when Ridgefield was disqualified for using an ineligible player.

Stamford is seeking its first junior legion state title. It would be the town's first Legion state championship since the senior team won the crown in 1957.
