Kerr shares with Patch why he should be elected to the Board of Education.

TRUMBULL, CT — The 2019 municipal election is heating up in Trumbull and there are plenty of races with candidates eager to serve in elected office.
Trumbull Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as election day draws near.
Scot Kerr is running for Board of Education as a Democrat. He is the director of external reporting for Achievement First Public Charter Schools. He is a current member of the Trumbull Parks and Recreation Commission and a former member of the Trumbull Conservation Commission.

Maintaining and increasing the breadth of educational opportunities for our
students at the same time our town faces reduced State funding and the need
to keep Trumbull affordable for young families and seniors.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates
seeking this post?
I am an active parent (of a high school sophomore) who has held multiple
leadership positions in organizations that have supported the schools and
teachers -- Fathers Clubs, PTA, Golden Eagle Marching Band.
List other issues that define your campaign platform:
Shared services between our school system and town; thoughtful and
realistic capital planning.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle
this job?
At Achievement First I interface regularly with the State Department of
Education and support our independent school boards with regard to their
compliance with education law.
The best advice ever shared with me was ...
"Pick up the phone" stressing the importance of talking to people
and keeping the lines of communication open, particularly among those with
differing opinions.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your
positions?
I'm a dedicated volunteer who will help open the lines of communications
among all the constituents that value great public schools, most importantly
students.
