TRUMBULL, CT — Trumbull Emergency Medical Services Chief Leigh Goodman will resign next month and an interim chief has already been appointed, according to town officials.

First Selectman Vicki Tesoro announced Thursday that Goodman's resignation will be effective Dec. 2 and Andrew Weber has been named interim chief. They will both serve as co-chiefs during a transition period from Nov. 7 to Dec. 2 to allow for a seamless transition.

Goodman, who has served as chief since January 2019, will step down to take a position in a hospital-based system, allowing her to reduce her work hours and offer a more practical work-life balance, according to a news release.

"Stepping back from this role is, by far, the hardest decision I have made in my professional career," Goodman said in a statement. "I remain ardently invested in the continued success of Trumbull EMS, our EMS providers who are the heartbeat of our organization, and the health and wellbeing of the Town of Trumbull community. I am thankful for the opportunity to continue to work alongside our team to support them during this transition."

The town will begin searching for a new chief and plans on "an aggressive, streamlined approach to recruiting, interviewing and onboarding" for the position.

"I am extremely sad to see Leigh leave the chief's position, but I am thankful and proud of the great work she has done to build a strong and successful emergency medical service," Tesoro said in a statement. "TEMS is an industry-leading, award-winning progressive service that will continue to deliver stellar care to our town. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Leigh and am confident we will continue to collaborate on initiatives that will support our community."

Diane Mayo, chair of the Trumbull EMS Commission, also noted commission members have been very impressed by Goodman’s performance as chief.

"We will miss her incredible leadership," Mayo said in a statement, "and we wish her all the best for the future."

Weber most recently served as paramedic supervisor for TEMS. He will serve as interim chief until a successor is selected.

"We have complete faith in Andrew Weber to step in as Interim Chief during this transition period," Tesoro said.
