Trumbull Falls In Babe Ruth World Series Opener

Teams loses 8-1 to Pennsylvania's Tri-Township, The Mid-Atlantic Region champion

Brad Stolfzfus collected three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs Saturday to lift Tri-Township (Pa.) to an 8-1 victory over Trumbull in the opening game of the Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series in Jamestown, N.Y.

Max German (double) added two hits and two RBI and Dalton Smoot scattered four hits and allowed one run over six innings for Tri-Township.

The game was tied 1-1 until the bottom of the fifth when the Mid-Atlantic Regional champs scored three runs, highlighted by RBI singles by Stoltzfus and Robbie Welhaf.

Tri-Township added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to break open the game. Devan Birch had a sacrifice fly, Robbie Knox had an RBI single and German and Stoltzfus both had RBI doubles.

The only run for Trumbull came in the fifth, courtesy of pinch hitter Nick Weinstein's run-scoring single.

Stanley Wolpiuk took the loss, giving up four runs - three earned - in five innings.

Stoltzfus and Weinstein were named the most outstanding players for their respective teams.

Trumbull, which dropped to 11-1 in the postseason, is back in action on Monday against host Jamestown.
