Trumbull Girls Basketball Grabs Top Seed In Class LL State Tournament
Eagles face Ridgefield for FCIAC title on Thursday

While preparing for Thursday's FCIAC championship game against Ridgefield, the girls basketball team learned Wednesday that it secured the top seed for the CIAC Class LL state tournament.
If form holds true, the Eagles and Tigers could meet again in the quarterfinals on March 10.
The CIAC released it state tournanament pairings and seedings Wednesday morning. While Trumbull (19-1 in the regular season) landed the top seed, Ridgefield (16-4) earned the No. 8 seed, meaning the FCIAC powers would be on a collision course to face each other again in the round of eight.

Ridgefield opens tournament play at home on Tuesday against No. 25 seed Cheshire (10-10). If the Tigers advance, they would face either No. 9 Career Magnet of New Haven (16-4) or No. 24 Woodridge of Amity (11-9) in the second round on March 4.
Trumbull awaits the winner of the first-round contest between No. 16 Shelton (14-6) and No. 17 Norwich Free Academy (14-6).

Also earning first-round byes were No. 2 seed Mercy of Middletown (19-1), No. 3 Manchester (19-1) and No. 4 Holy Cross of Waterbury (19-1).
Twenty-eight teams earned their way into the Class LL tournament by winning at least 40 percent of their games.
Other FCIAC teams in the Class LL field include: No.11 Danbury (15-5), No. 14 St. Joseph (14-6), No. 18 Norwalk (13-7), No. 20 Westhill (12-8), No. 27 Stamford (8-10) and No. 28 Staples (8-12).
Three FCIAC teams qualified in Class L: No. 6 New Canaan (15-5), No. 14 Darien (13-7), No.17 Fairfield Warde (11-9), and No. 19 Wilton (11-9).
In addition, Trinity Catholic (14-6) is the No. 12 seed in Class M.
In total, 13 of the FCIAC's 19 teams qualified for state tournament play.
