Trumbull Girls Basketball Looking To Make FCIAC Playoffs
Eagles were edged out of the final playoff spot last season due to a tiebreaker

With three starters returning, the Trumbull girls' basketball team is looking to qualify for the FCIAC playoffs this season and make a deeper run in the state tournament.
Back this season are senior guards Kelly Coughlin and Megan Puglia along with junior guard Victoria Pfohl.
Coughlin, who is being recruited by a number of Division III schools, led the team last year in 3-pointers made and attempted while Pfohl paced the squad in assists.

"One of our strengths is our guard play," said coach Steve Tobitsch, who is entering his fifth season at Trumbull. "We have a tremendous amount of depth and quality at the guard positions, which will be a key factor in how competitive we stay in games throughout the season."
Last season, Trumbull tied for the eighth and final FCIAC playoff spot, but lost a tiebreaker to McMahon. The Eagles were then bounced by Glastonbury in the first round of the Class LL state tournament.

Tobitsch is looking to capitalize on his depth at the guard position and also take advantage of the team's overall speed to pressure opponents. He also will be relying on senior forward Mookie Kennedy, a newcomer.
The Eagles lack a true post presence, but Tobitsch hopes to overcome that with effort, heart and determination.
He also things the league is more competitive this season beyond top contenders Trinity Catholic, Ridgefield and St. Joseph, the defending FCIAC champion.
"We will have a lot of teams of equal ability competing to crack into our league playoffs," Tobitsch said, "Darien, New Canaan, Fairfield Warde, Danbury, Stamford, and I'm sure many others will take the league by surprise.
"Our league will be very competitive from top to bottom and anyone can be the fourth seed in the FCIAC playoff hunt or the eighth seed. It's really all unknown at this point."
Another goal for the Eagles is winning the Masuk Holiday Tournament, which includes Hamden, Ridgefield and Masuk.
