Trumbull LA Fitness Car Theft Thwarted: PD

An alert Trumbull officer noticed some suspicious activity in the parking lot.

TRUMBULL, CT — An alert Trumbull Police officer on patrol nabbed two would-be car thieves who had stolen a gym member's keys at LA Fitness, according to police.

The two juveniles were attempting to locate the vehicle to match the key's that were stolen out of an unlocked locker in the men's locker room, said Lt. Keith Golding, police spokesman.

There have been eight vehicle thefts from LA Fitness in the past several weeks.

The two juveniles were charged with sixth-degree larceny, criminal trespass and criminal attempt at third-degree larceny. They are due in court Jan. 26.

Trumbull Police would like to remind citizens to safeguard their valuables and vehicles by keeping their keys with them or in a secure trusted location at all times whenever they are using an exercise facility or are going to be away from their belongings for some time," Golding said. "Leaving these items in unlocked lockers or unsecured areas is providing an easy target for thieves."
