Trumbull Legislators Sponsor Retired Flag Collection

Trumbull legislators have provided two locations where residents can drop off worn American flags for proper ceremonial disposal.

TRUMBULL, CT — State Reps. David Rutigliano (R-123), Laura Devlin (R-134) and Ben McGorty (R-122), in cooperation with the Trumbull American Legion Post #141, encourage residents to dispose of their worn American flags in a dignified and respectful way.

According to a news release, the three lawmakers have made the flag collection an annual tradition for the last five years to commemorate Flag Day.

The Trumbull legislators have provided two locations that residents can drop off their worn American flags for proper ceremonial disposal, according to the U.S. Flag Code, plus an additional day to drop flags off to the state representatives.

Drop-off locations will receive flags from May 7 to June 13.

The drop-off locations are:

  • Trumbull Town Hall, 5866 Main Street
  • Trumbull Public Library, 33 Quality Street
  • Fairchild-Nichols Memorial Library, 718 Huntington Turnpike

Additionally, the lawmakers will host a drive-by flag collection for worn and tattered flags at the Middlebrook Elementary School, located at 220 Middlebrooks Avenue, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The U.S. Flag Code specifies that old American flags no longer in service must be properly disposed. The collected flags will be given to the American Legion Post #141 for proper retirement during a ceremony on June 14.
