Trumbull Legislators Support Sikorsky Package

The package will help support six Sikorsky supply-chain companies based in Trumbull.

TRUMBULL, CT—State Reps. David Rutigliano (R-123), Laura Devlin (R-134) and Ben McGorty (R-122) supported a legislative package that will keep Sikorsky in Stratford for at least another 16 years.

The deal gives Sikorsky $220 million in grants and tax exemptions in exchange for building 200 new Sikorsky CH-53K King Stallion heavy-lift cargo helicopters in-state. Sikorsky will have to expand its workforce to more than 8,000 by 2032 and double spending of $350 million per year with state-based suppliers.

Trumbull has six Sikorsky supply-chain companies that will benefit from the deal. Hundreds of people are employed at the supply chain companies.

“Our state’s economy is sputtering and to have a major lifeline to many small businesses in our area, like Sikorsky, leave Connecticut would surely have serious negative consequences," Rutigliano said. "It is my hope the General Assembly looks to find real solutions and a plan going forward on how to address the high cost of doing business in Connecticut."

Devlin said the state can't afford to lose any more jobs, especially high-skill manufacturing.

“While I support this measure, it’s no substitute for having a real economic policy that makes our state legitimately competitive and attractive to major manufacturers," McGorty said. "A great deal of work remains before us to ensure a better environment for employers here.”
