Trumbull Reaches Tentative Agreement With Police Union Over Pension Plan
Town officials have announced a tentative agreement reached with the police union to restore a pension plan for officers hired in mid-2014.

TRUMBULL, CT — Town officials announced Monday they have reached a tentative agreement with the Trumbull Police Union to restore a pension plan for officers hired after July 1, 2014.
In a news release provided by the town, First Selectman Vicki Tesoro said she was pleased the town was able to reach this agreement with the police union through the collective bargaining process.
"Based on feedback from Chief [Michael] Lombardo, the police commission and the union, this action will go a long way to restore Trumbull’s competitiveness in the hiring market," Tesoro said in a news release.

This agreement is subject to ratification by the Town Council before it becomes effective, according to town officials.
"I am very pleased that we have come to a tentative agreement and look forward to the council approval," Lombardo said in a news release. "The officers are dedicated to working hard and providing professional police services to our town. Trumbull is a safe community and will remain a safe community because of the efforts of our officers."

"We, the Trumbull Police Union, are pleased with the progress made so far between the town of Trumbull officials and the Trumbull Police Union," Union President Brian Federowicz said in a news release. "We believe this is a step in the right direction for public safety in the town of Trumbull. We hope the Town Council will approve the framework of the agreement."
Tesoro also assured Town Council members and Trumbull residents that this agreement was done with careful deliberation and with future costs in mind.
"Over the last few years, the town has carefully considered alternatives and implemented programs like sign-on bonuses to improve competitiveness," Tesoro said. "With recruitment and retention remaining an ongoing challenge, we believe that this agreement is the best solution to place Trumbull on equal footing with other communities. This action corrects a mistake of the previous administration, and I am glad we have come to an agreement. I look forward to Town Council approval."
