Trumbull Schools Announce Coronavirus Preparation Steps
There are no confirmed Connecticut cases yet, but school and town officials are taking preventative steps.
TRUMBULL, CT — Town and school officials are urging residents and businesses to take extra preventative steps amid growing concern over the new coronavirus.
There have been no confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Connecticut. There are a total of 60 confirmed cases across the U.S. across 12 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There have been six deaths as of March 3, according to the CDC.
Acting Superintendent Ralph Iassogna wrote to parents that custodians are being asked to clean schools thoroughly with disinfectants, especially in common areas.

"In the event a case of Coronavirus is confirmed in a school, a decision will be made to take the appropriate steps necessary to mitigate the situation," Iassogna said. "If the situation at the community level should become a threat, prompting school closures of any kind, parents will be notified with a specific plan in place. While this is not likely at this point, town and schools are prepared to take all necessary actions to protect public health."
Meanwhile, Iassogna urged parents to keep their children home if they show any symptoms of illness. He also urged all students and staff to following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, particularly when it comes to frequent hand washing.

Trumbull's Economic and Community Development office is asking businesses to review how they can maintain essential services in the event of local coronavirus transmission. Director Rina Bakalar encouraged business owners to check the CDC's guidance for businesses and to follow preventative steps including reminding employees to wash hands frequently and to have employees stay home if they feel sick.
