The spring season gets under way for the Trumbull and St. Joseph teams on Wednesday.
Jim Chaves, a 1998 graduate of St. Joseph and three-year starter, takes over as the Cadets' baseball coach and could have an FCIAC-contending team.

The Cadets again will be led by third baseman Tyler Matakevich, an All-State linebacker in football, and catcher Joe Burns. They each batted over .300 last season.
St. Joseph also returns starting second baeman Jerry Kramer, another football player, and its entire outfield of Alexis Guadalupe, Alex Carboni and Chris McCormack. Quinn Irwin will anchor the pitching staff.

St. Joseph finished 17-8 last season, reaching the semifinals of the FCIAC playoffs and the quarterfinals of the CIAC Class M state tournament.
The Cadets open the 2011 campaign at home against Greenwich in a rematch of last year's FCIAC semifinal, won the Cardinals, 13-4.
