Trumbull's Craig Breslow Traded; Golden Eagles Win Again

Trumbull's will have a new address when the 2012 baseball season gets under way next spring.
A member of the Oakland Athletics for the past three seasons, Breslow was traded to the National West champion Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday.
Breslow was part of a deal that also sent pitcher Trevor Cahill to Arizona. Going to Oakland were pitcher Jarrod Parker outfielder Collin Cowgilland reliever Ryan Cook.

Used as a setup man, Breslow was 0-2 with a 3.79 ERA in 67 appearances for the Athletics last season. In six major league seasons, he has a career mark of 3.06 in 295 appearances, all out of the bullpen.
Breslow's best season came in 2008, when he was 8-7 with a 3.36 ERA in 77 outings for the Toronto Blue Jays. He is joining his seventh major league organization.

A Yale graduate, Breslow has been called the smartest man in the major leagues.
The Diamondbacks' pitching coach is Fairfield native Charles Nagy.

The Trumbull girls basketball team showed why it is the reigning FCIAC champions.
Alexa Pfohl scored 15 points and sister Victoria added 14 as the Eagles routed Trinity Catholic 55-34 on Friday for their 25th straight FCIAC victory.
Erin Moore added 14 for Trumbull (2-0), which jumped out to a 32-12 halftime lead en route to the convincing victory.
Mackenzie Griffin scored 11 points to lead the Crusaders (1-1). Ali Palma added nine points for Trinity Catholic and Kellie Hurd chipped in with eight.
Trumbull held Trinity Catholic to just over 30 percent shooting from the field.

Jess Jowdy scored 14 points while Jenn Vazquez and Nancy Stablein each chipped in with 12 as the St. Joseph girls basketball team defeated Fairfield Warde 59-35 on Friday.
After holding a 10-8 lead after the first quarter, the Cadets outscored the Mustangs 23-8 n the third period to build a 33-16 cushion at the half.
St Joseph then extended its margin to 45-20 by holding Fairfield Warde to just four points in the third period.
Kenzie Burns led Warde with 11 points, all in the second half, and Brielle Lanese added 10.
The Mustangs, who were coming off a season-opening 49-47 overtime loss at Greenwich, dropped to 0-2.

Tickets for the Northeast Christmas Boys Basketball Tournament, to be played Dec. 27-28, at the Webster Ban k Arena at Harbor Yard, are on sale in the main office at St. Joseph. Tickets are $5 per night for students and $9 per night for adults.
Tickets purchased at the door will be $8 per night for students and $10 per night for adults.
Competing in the two-day event will be Class M champion Trinity Catholic Class L champion New London, Class LL champion St. Joseph and New York City power Archbishop Molloy.
