Trumbull Scores And Standings: Dec. 2

Yale-bound Keith Bond, who scored 14 goals and 15 assists during the season, was one of three members of the Trumbull boys soccer team to earn all-FCIAC first-team honors. The selections were released by the league on Thursday.

Bond was joined on the squad by goalkeeper Nick Weinstein and Jon DeJesus. Tim Johnson and Anthony Teixeira earned all-FCIAC West honors.

The three first-team picks joined regular-season champion Norwalk and Staples for the most in the league.

The Eagles (18-2-4) advanced to their first state final in school history, losing to Pomperaug 2-1 in the Class LL championship game.

Trumbull also won its first outright FCIAC championship and finished third in the final Connecticut Soccer Coaches Association large school poll.

St. Joseph's Chris Huben was named to the first team while the Cadets' Matt DiCariano was an all-FCIAC East pick.

The Christian Heritage boys and girls basketball teams split their season openers on Tuesday as the boys fell 67-54 to Marianapolis Prep and the girls posted a 50-32 victory over Macduffie.

For the boys, Aaron Bartley scored 20 points and Bryan Jones added 18.

The girls were led by Stephanie Jones, who poured in 29 points. Fredi Neilsen added 11 for Christian Heritage, which opened a 27-8 lead at the half. Neilsen also grabbed nine rebounds.

The Webster Bank Arena will be the site of a high school hockey doubleheader on New Year's Eve.

In the first game at noon, Newtown plays Division III champion Watertown-Pomperaug in the first game at noon. Trumbull then meets Branford in the second game at 2.

Tickets are $10 for both games and can be purchased at the arena's Click It or Ticket box office. Tickets also will be available at each school for $8.
