Trumbull High Girls Basketball Keeps Winning

The girls basketball team remained unbeaten with a 47-35 victory over Darien on Tuesday.

Victoria Pfohl scored 14 points for the Eagles, who improved to 5-0 while Darien slipped to 2-3. Alex Pfohl added nine for Trumbull.

Despite the 12-point margin of victory, the Eagles received a stiff test from the Blue Wave.

Trumbull did not lead until the fourth quarter, when it outscored the Blue Wave 18-6. The contest was tied entering the final period.

Meg Marren scored 19 points and Emily Stein and Kate Bushell each added seven for Darien, which led 13-9 after the first quarter and 21-18 at the half.

In what probably rates as the most surprising result early in the FCIAC season, the Wilton girls basketball team stunned previously uinbeaten St. Joseph 47-28 Tuesday night at the Fujitani Field House.

Maggie Fulton scored 15 points to lead Wilton, which improved to 3-1. St. Joseph dropped to 4-1.

The Warriors won going away, outscoring the Cadets 17-4 in the final period.

Casey Pearsall contributed nine points and Erin Cunningham added seven for Wilton, which rebounded from a 50-49 loss to Fairfield Ludlowe in its last game.

Nancy Stablein led St. Joseph with just seven points. Wilton jumped out to a 14-8 lead after the first quarter and maintained the six-point edge with a 24-18 margin at the half.

Timajh Parker poured in 22 points and James Jennings added 15 as the St. Joseph boys basketball team rolled to a 74-32 victory over Wilton.

Parker and Charles Howell each grabbed 10 rebounds for the Cadets (3-0), who dominated on the boards. Patrick Hopkins also had seven blocks for St. Joseph.

Chris Nugent scored nine points and Eric Houska added six to pace the Warriors (0-2).

St. Joseph jumped out to a 19-8 lead after the first quarter and extended its cushion to 38-13 at the half.

Travis Fonseca scored 21 points and Sam Turner added 17 Tuesday as the Trumbull boys basketball team posted a 59-46 win over Darien.

Trumbull improved to 2-1 while Darien dropped to 0-3.

However, even a pair of lopsided losses to open the season, the Blue Wave were more competitive Tuesday and managed a 13-12 lead after the first period.

Trumbull then outscored Darien 20-13 in the second quarter to build a 32-26 lead at the half.

Liam Naughton scored 21 points and Kyle Green added seven for the Blue Wave.
