SJHS Meets NYC's Archbishop Malloy School on Dec. 28

The two coaches, Vito Montelli and Jack Curran, each have 50 years' experience.

MSG Varsity will present a taped broadcast of Tuesday's highly-anticapted boys basketball game betwen and Archbishop Malloy of New York City.

The contest, part of St. Joseph's prestigious Northeast Chrismas Classic, will air on MSG Varsity, Channel 14 on Dec. 28 at 7:30PM.  Jimmy Cavallo and Vin Parise will call the action.

The clash features a pair of legendary coaches who have more than 100 years of experience between them. Vito Montelli is in his 50th season at St. Joseph and Jack Curran is in his 52nd season at Molloy.

In its 25th season, the tournament was moved from St. Joseph to the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport because of the demand.

The two-day round robin event also features Class L state champion New London and Class M state champion Trinity Catholic. St. Joseph is the defending Class LL champion.

On Tuesday, New London and Trinity Catholic clash at 6 p.m., followed by the St. Joseph-Malloy contest at 8.

The following night, Trinity Catholic plays Malloy at 6 p.m. and St. Joseph faces New London at 8 p.m.

Michael Ahearn recorded three goals and an assist Wednesday as the Trumbull boys hockey team posted a 5-1 win over New Fairfield/Immaculate.

Corey Watson and Jake Crowe also scored for the Eagles, who took a 1-0 lead into the third period when they broke it open with four goals.

Luke McFadden scored the only goal for New Fairfield/Immaculate in the third period.

Trumbull, which improved to 3-0, finished with a 48-15 edge in shots.  Matthew Carter had 14 saves for the Eagles.
