The girls basketball team looks to avenge its only regular-season loss from last year when it takes on host Masuk in the championship game of the Masuk holiday tournament on Friday on 7 p.m.
Last season, the Eagles fell to the Panthers 39-34 in the championship game. They rebounded to finish unbeaten in the FCIAC, then went on to win the league title and earned the top seed in the CIAC Class L state tournament.
Erin Moore scored 14 points and Alexa Pfohl added 11 on Wednesday as Trumbull held off Ridgefield 41-38 to improve to 6-0.

Masuk (4-2) edged Hamden 44-43 to reach the final. The Panthers have won three in a row after a 1-2 start.
Ann Odoy, Masuk's all-time leader scorer and former player at Boston College, is in her first season as the Panthers' coach.

She replaced the legendary Dave Strong, who retired after 35 seasons at Masuk. He is the winningest girls basketball coach in state history, posting a career record of 704-156 while winning three state titles.
Odoy scored 2,136 points during her Masuk career from 1980-84. She had been an assistant under Strong for the past 13 seasons.

The St Joseph girls basketball team defeated Staples 46-41 Thursday in the championship game of the Notre Dame of Fairfield Appalachian Christmas tournament.
Nancy Stablein poured in 21 points to lead the Cadets, who improved to 6-1. Jessica Dowdy added 11 for the Cadets.
Nikki Bukowsky scored 16 and Jess Coelho added 13 for the Wreckers, who dropped to 5-2.
Staples built an 18-16 halftime lead but St. Joseph took control by outscorig the Wreckers 19-7 in the third quarter to take 35-25 lead.

Mike Yerina scored 17 points and Travis Fonseca added 15 point as Trumbull routed 70-41 Platt in its holiday tournament on Thursday.
Sam Turner added nine points - all of 3-pointers - as the Eagles gained a split in the tournament and improved to 3-2.
Tracy Rumley scored 18 points for Platt, which dropped to 0-5.
Trumbull took control from the outset, building a 17-7 lead after the first quarter.
After the Eagles took a 34-23 halftime lead, they outscored Platt 36-18 in the second half to turn the contest into a rout.

Christian Keator scored three goals, leading the St. Joseph boys hockey team to a 4-2 victory over North Yarmouth in the Biddeford tournament in Maine.
Matt Julian scored the other goal for the Cadets, who improved to 3-1.
On Wednesday, John Ferguson scored three goals to lead St. Joseph to a 3-0 win over DeMatha Catholic.
Ron Johnson made 28 saves for the Cadets on Thursday after Marc Van Etten stopped 25 on Wednesday.
