Cadets Hold Off Norwalk

The top-ranked boys basketball team survived a scare Wednesday, pulling out a 50-45 victory over upset-minded Norwalk.

After scoring a season low in points, the Cadets improved to 13-0 overall and 11-0 in the FCIAC while Norwalk dropped to 8-6 and 6-6.

Timajh Parker scored 12 points and James Jennings added 11 for St. Joseph, which faced 33-31 deficit deficit entering the fourth quarter of a slow-paced game. But the Cadets outscored the Bears 19-12 over the final eight minutes to remain undefeated.

Rasheen Thompson scored 13 points for Norwalk, which succeeded in slowing down St. Joseph's high-powered offense.   Ra'Von Shular added 10 for the Bears.

However, St. Joseph dominated the boards as Parker had 16 rebounds and Patrick Hopkins grabbed 11.

St. Joseph will go for its 14th victory on Friday when it hosts Bridgeport Central while Norwalk visits Darien.

In a game dominated by the goaltenders, the Darien boys hockey team extended its winning streak to eight games with a 3-2 victory over St. Joseph at the Shelton Rinks.

Brendan Hathaway's scored his second goal of the night to snap a 2-2 tie as the Blue Wave improved to 9-3.

Zack Usinger and Ryan Corcoran tallied in the first period to give the Cadets a 2-1 lead while Hank Glick registered  Darien's first goal.

The teams combined for 100 shots as Darien's Max Rothston's made 49 saves and St. Joseph's Ron Johnson turned aside 46.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for St. Joseph, which dropped to 9-5.

Lucas Znosko erupted for four goals wednesday, leading the suddenly hot Westhill boys hockey team to a 5-4 overtime victory over Trumbull in the first game of a doubleheader at the Shelton Rinks.

Neil Smolinski also scored for the Vikings, who improved to 3-8-1. It was Westhill's third straight win.

Trumbull's Brendan Strobel tried to match Znosko but finished with three goals. Michael Ahearn tallied the other goal for the Eagles, who dropped to 9-5.

Westhill's Adam Goldstone made 23 saves while Trumbull's Chris Sarosky stopped 40 shots to keep the Eagles in the contest.

A number of athlets from St. Joseph and Trumbull will participate in the FCIAC indoor track championship on Thursday in New Haven.

Leading the contingent is Trumbull's Keith Bond, who is the top seed in the boys 300-meter dash and the No. 4 seed in the boys 55-meter hurdles.
