St. Joseph Girls Basketball Falls to Danbury

Danbury showed that it may be the team to beat in the FCIAC, routing 54-27 Tuesday night in girls basketball action in Trumbull.
Casey Smith scored 16 points for the Hatters, the FCIAC's only unbeaten team who improved to 11-0 overall and 9-0 in league play.

In its previous game, St. Joseph ended Trumbull's 30-game FCIAC winning streak with a 51-41 victory, but the Cadets couldn't get much going against the Hatters.
Jessica Jowdy led St. Joseph with 11 points while leading scorer Nancy Stablein was held to seven.

St. Joseph, which trailed 33-13 at the half, suffered its second loss of the season and dropped to 10-2, 8-2.
Rachel Gartner added 10 points for Danbury.

After having its 30-game FCIAC winning streak snapped by St. Joseph in its previous game, the Trumbull girls basketball team quickly got back on track Tuesday.
Alexa Pfohl scored 18 points as the Eagles routed McMahon 55-25 in Norwalk.
Trumbull improved to 9-1 while McMahon, which has lost eight of its last nine games, dropped to 3-9.
The Eagles dominated on the boards as Alexa Pfohl, Amanda Pfohl and Joyce Woolen each pulled down 10 rebounds. Victoria Pfohl handed out eight assists for the Eagles.
Jazmine Taylor scored 10 points to lead the Senators, who trailed 30-14 at the half. After an even third quarter, Trumbull finished out the rout by outscoring McMahon 15-2 in the final quarter.

James Jennings erupted for 31 points as the St. Joseph boys basketball team remained unbeaten with an 84-66 victory over Danbury.
Timajh Parker added 17 points and 12 rebounds for the state's top-ranked Cadets, who improved to 10-0.
Quincy McKnight added 12 points and Patrick Hopkins blocked six shots for the Cadets.
Joel Harris scored 18 points, one of four players in double figures for Danbury.
However, it was the second straight loss for the Hatters, who were coming off a 65-55 defeat to Trinity Catholic and dropped to 7-2.
St. Joseph built a 21-11 lead after the first quarter and maintained a 35-25 margin at the half. The Cadets then put away the contest by outscoring the Hatters 21-13 in the third period.

Mike Yerina had 24 points and 11 rebounds as the Trumbull boys basketball team edged McMahon 54-53 on Tuesday.
Travis Fonseca scored 11 points for the Eagles, who improved to 5-4.
Andy Mitchell scored 16 points and Jimmy Martinez added 15 for McMahon, whose late rally fell short.
After trailing 8-5 following the first period,Trumbull outscoted McMahon 20-10 in the second period to take a 25-18 lead at the half.
The Eagles then took a 35-29 lead into the final period before holding on.
The loss continued a nightmarish season for the Senators, who dropped to a shocking 1-9.

Dana Cerone and Katie Curnan each scored two goals to lead the Ridgefield girls hockey team to a 7-3 victory over the Trumbull-Staples Co-op.
Lucy Wemyss and Caitlin DeBartolo also had goals for the Tigers, who improved to 9-3.
Nina Danforth tallied twice and Kaly Goniki once for Trumbull-Staples, which dropped to 3-7.
Maggie Philbin made 14 saves for Ridgefield and Casey Bang stopped 27 for Trumbull-Staples.
Ridgefield jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period, then extended its advantage to 6-1 after two periods.

The Trumbull and St. Joseph boys hockey teams renew their rivalry on Wednesday at the Shelton Rinks. Faceoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
Trumbull enters the contest with a 7-2 record after blanking Masuk 6-0 on Monday. On Saturday, the Eagles defeated Staples-Weston-Shelton 4-2, handing the Wreckers their first loss of the season.
St. Joseph is 5-4, but battled fourth-ranked Ridgefield on almost even terms before dropping a 3-2 decision to the Tigers in its most recent game on Saturday.
Christian Keator and Logan Bruneau scored for the Cadets, who received 38 saves from Ron Johnson.
