Alexa Pfohl scored 14 points as thegirls basketball team routed Bridgeport Central 64-22 on Friday to keep pace with undefeated Danbury in the battle for the top seed in the FCIAC playoffs.
Trumbull improved 11-1 overall and 9-1 in the FCIAC, just behind Danbury, the league's only unbeaten team, which is 12-0 and 10-0 after beating Ridgefield 68-51 on Friday.

Lauren Hyde added 10 points while Victoria Pfohl and Erin Moore each chipped with nine points for the Eagles. Joyce Woolen grabbed 10 rebounds for Trumbull and Victoria Pfohl handed out 10 assists.
Trumbull opened a 12-7 lead after the first quarter, then outscored the Hilltoppers 21-5 in the second period to take a 39-12 advantage at the half.

Bridgeport Central dropped to 2-11 overall and 1-10 in the FCIAC.

The St. Joseph girls basketball team moved back into sole possession of first place in the FCIAC East with a 52-21 drubbing of Bassick on Friday.
Nancy Stablein had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Cadets (11-2, 9-2), who jumped one-half game ahead of idle Wilton (8-2, 8-3).
Jenn Vazquez added eight points and Chloe Dudzinski chipped in with six for St. Joseph, which used 15 players in the rout.
St. Joseph raced out to a 22-3 lead after the first quarter, then outscored Bassick 8-0 in the second period to open a 30-3 lead at the half.
Bassick remained winless at 0-12 overall and 0-11 in league play.

Bridgeport Central used an impressive first half to defeat the Trumbull boys basketball team 69-44 on Friday.
Rebounding from an 88-82 loss to Bassick, the Hilltoppers raced out to a 48-18 halftime lead and cruised to the win.
John Watts scored 12 points to pace Trumbull, which played better in the second half, but the Eagles barely put a dent into Central's commanding 30-point halftime lead.
The Hilltoppers improved to 6-3 while the Eagles dropped to 5-4.
Tyler Ancrum scored 19 points and Josh Wilkerson added 17 for Central. Ancrum also handed out 10 assists.

Christian Keator scored the tiebreaking goal in the third period Saturday as the St. Joseph boys hockey team posted a 2-1 victory over Staples-Weston-Shelton at the Shelton Rinks.
The Cadets, who were coming off a last-minute 4-3 win over Trumbull, improved to 7-4 while the Wreckers dropped to 6-2.
St. Joseph's Matt Julian and Staples-Weston-Shelton's Forrest Savage traded goals in the first period.
Riley Macdonald made 37 saves for Staples while Ron Johnson stopped 15 shots for St. Joseph, which finished with a 39-15 edge in shots.
