The boys hockey team ran into a New Canaan squad primed for revenge.

Spencer Manchuk scored twice and four other players once as the Rams routed the Cadets 6-1 Wednesday at the Darien Ice Rink in a rematch of last season's CIAC Division I semifinal.

In that game, St. Joseph edged the New Canaan 6-5, handing the Rams their first loss after 25 straight victories.

With 18 new faces in the lineup, New Canaan (3-3) scored six unanswered goals Wednesday after Matt Vazzano gave the Cadets a 1-0 lead in the first period.

The other New Canaan goals were scored by Dylan Hart, Henry Stanton, Jake Granito and William Glover.

Stanton scored in the final minute of the first period to give New Canaan a 2-1 lead, and the Rams never locked back. New Canaan tacked on three goals in the second period.

Chris Koennecke made 26 saves for New Canaan while Ron Johnson (11) and Marc VanEtten (13) combined to stop 24 shots for St. Joseph (4-2).

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Cadets, who lost to Fairfield Prep in last season's state championship game.
