Brian Bacarella scored three goals Saturday, including the game-winner with just under five minutes remaining, as St. Joseph edged Barlow 6-5 in the CIAC Class S boys lacrosse state championship game at McMahon.
It was the second title in three years for the 12th-seedeed Cadets (12-8), who won their first state title in school history in 2009. St Joseph goalkeeper Matt Mohr registered 17 saves.

Seven members of the Cadets' team earned Class S all-state honors: Bacarella, first team attack; Mike Marini, second team attack. Pat Corcoran, first team midfield attack, Pat Mulligan, second team midfield; Alex Stefkovich and Nick Francis, second team defense; and Brandon Goncalves - first team, shortstick defensive midfield.
Trumbull's 4x400 boys relay team (Mike Adinolfi, Keith Bond, Malcolm Connor and Nick Lombardi) placed second in the New England track and field championships on Saturday in Burlington, Vermont with a time of 3:20:35.

Trumbull's 4-x100 relay team (Adinolfi, Lombardi, Tim Johnson and Bond) finished third. In addition, Adinolfi placed third in the 300 hurdles (38.81).
-- Joe Della Vecchia, who quarterbacked St. Joseph to a second consecutive Class S state championship last fall, was one of four Cadets named to the Fairfield County All-Star roster that will face the New Haven County All-Stars in the annual Hall of Fame Football Classic.
Other St. Joseph players include Mike Marini, Tyler Matakevich and Nick Adzima.
Chosen from Trumbull, which lost to Xavier in the Class LL title game, were Matt Lina and Phil Terio.
The 15th annual Hall of Fame Classic is set for July 8 at West Haven's Ken Strong Stadium. Tickets cost $7 each and are available at the gate.
