Trumbull Scores and Standings: June 17

St. Joseph ace Quinn Irwin and third baseman Tyler Matakevich earned spots on the Class M all-state baseball team.

The Cadets, who were the top seed in the Class M state tournament, finished the season at 21-4 after getting upset by Stonington 4-3 in the quarterfinals.  St. Joseph also had the top seed for the FCIAC playoffs.

-- Seven members of St. Joseph's Class S boys lacrosse state championship team earned All-State homors: Brian Bacarella, first team, attack; Mike Marini, second team, attack;  Pat Corcoran, first team, midfield; Pat Mulligan, second team, midfield;  Alex Stefkovich and Nick Francis, second team, defense;   and Brandon Goncalves,  first team. short stick defensive midfield.

The Cadets defeated Barlow 6-5 in the Class S title game to win their second state title in three years.

-- Trumbull tennis player Joshua Rubinstein was named to the all-FCIAC first team while teammate Eric Flack earned honorable mention honors.

In volleyball, St. Joseph's  Pat Hopkins and Trumbull's Max McCullough were honorable mention picks.

-- The Trumbull junior American Legion team has gotten off to a 6-2 start, putting it in first place in Zone Four with a one-half game lead over Ridgefield (4-1).

The team has two wins over Greenwich and Fairfield and one each over Westport and Norwalk. Two of the six victories have been shutouts. In the seven games, Trumbull has allowed only 13 runs, an average of under two per outing.

Trumbull did fall to Stamford 6-2 on Thursday.
