Ansonia's Montrell Dobbs was named the offensive MVP for Connecticut even though he rushed for only two yards on five attempts in the first half. Pomperaug's Willie Maxen was named the top defensive player for the winners.
Dobbs, who ran for more than 3,000 yards for Ansonia last season, came alive in the second half. His 77-yard TD jaunt gave the Nutmeggers a 17-6 lead on the second play of the third quarter.
Following a fumble, Berlin's Max Delorenzo's 15-yard TD burst made it 24-6. After another turnover, this one an interception, Della Vecchia found Kelly for a 30-6 cushion.
Kelly also caught a 13-yard TD pass from Kyle Nolan in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
Connecticut recorded six sacks, one by St. Joseph's Tyler Matakevich and one by Stamford's Mark Robinson.
Shelton's Mike Georgalas caught two passes for 17 yards, both in the first half.
