The Christian Heritage School softball team will host the HVAL championship today against The Harvey School of Katonah, N.Y., on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. at Unity Field in Trumbull.

-- Former Barlow coach Chris Lindwall has been named the new girls basketball coach at St. Joseph, the Connecticut Post reported Tuesday.

A former assistant under Dianne Nolan at Fairfield, Lindwall guided the Falcons to the 1995 Class M championship and a berth in the 1998 final.
He replaces Joe Cavallaro, who was dismissed after six years at the school. The Cadets are coming off a 16-8 season.
-- Tuesday was an day of upsets in the FCIAC girls playoffs as No. 2 seed Darien was the only higher seed to advance, and the Blue Wave needed eight innings get past Fairfield Warde, 1-0.
No. 8 Fairfield Ludlowe stunned top seed Westhill, which was undefeated in the regular season, 1-0, No. 6 Stamford downed No. 3 St. Joseph, 9-2, and No. 4 Danbury bested No. 4 New Canaan, 4-1.
