St. Joseph girls soccer coach Jack Nogueira, who guided the Cadets to state championships in 2007 and 2008, will be honored by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association during its Coach of the Year Recognition Dinner May 12 at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington.
Tickets for the dinner, which starts at 7 p.m., are $45 and may be purchased by contacting John Fontana at 860-628-4122.

A guidance counselor and girls soccer coach at St. Joseph since 1998, Nogueira will be one of 25 coaches honored.

-- Pomperaug (10-1) and St. Joseph (11-0) remain one-two in this week's New Haven Register top-10 high school baseball state poll. The Panthers received 11 first-place votes and the Cadets five.
Branford (9-2) is third, followed by Staples (9-2), Torrington (11-0), Notre Dame West Haven (8-3), Berlin (8-1), Amity (8-3), Southington (6-2) and Xavier (7-3).
Staples dropped only one spot despite despite losing twice last week while Torrington and Berlin were unranked a week ago.

St. Joseph 3, Danbury 0 -- Micki Keltos tossed a one-hitter for the Cadets while Brianna Shepard went 4-for-4.
Baseball
McMahon 4, Trumbull 2
St. Joseph 6, Danbury 5 -- St. Joseph rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to remain undefeated. Joe Burns had three hits and two RBI for the Cadets, who secured the walk-off win when Tyler Matakevich scored the winning run on an error.
