A lot can change in a year.
Last year at this time, the Trumbull and St. Joseph football teams were preparing for the state playoffs.

The Eagles would go on to lose to Xavier - the state's top-ranked team - in the Class LL final - while the Cadets would defeat Ansonia to capture their second straight Class S state championship.
A year later, both are closing out losing campaigns. St. Joseph, which was hit as hard by graduation losses as any team in the state, is 3-6 and Trumbull 2-6.

Still, the usual bragging rights will be on the line when the schools renew their rivalry on Thursday morning at St. Joseph at 10:30 p.m.
There also will be plenty of emotion involved as this marks the first time the teams will play following the death of former legendary Trumbull coach Jerry McDougall, who passed away in October. The game has been named in his honor.
St. Joseph, which is coming off a 29-14 victory over Trinity Catholic, is looking to finish the season with a three-game winning streak and take some momentum into next year.
Trumbull, meanwhile, will be out to end a six-game losing streak that started with a 36-12 loss to FCIAC finalist Greenwich on Oct. 6.
The Eagles lost starting quarterback Brandan Moore in a 35-8 win over Fairfield Ludlowe the previous week and never really recovered.
In last year's meeting, Trumbull posted a 38-27 win over the Cadets after rallying from a 24-7 halftime deficit. The Eagles took the lead in the fourth quarter following a 99-yard drive.
Trumbull, which leads the all-time series 21-5, will be without top rushing threat Don Cherry due to a suspension.
