Trumbull finished fifth Monday in the FCIAC boys cross country championships at New Canaan's Waveny Park with 128 points.

Leading the way for the Eagles were No 11 Nick Laskos (16:56) and No. 19 Austin Held (17:10) while No. 27 Malcolm Connor (17:20), No. 33 Rami Mohamed (17:33) and No. 38 Zack Texeira (17:44) also placed in the top 40.

The Trumbull girls finished 10th with four runners in the top 60: No. 48 Alexa Pfohl (16:58), No. 50 Sara Steere (17:05), No. 51 Rebecca Buck (17:10) and No. 59 Emily Riehl (17:27). Ellie Marble was 70th (18:00)

Darien's bid to unseat Danbury as FCIAC boys champions fell just short Monday at New Canaan's Waveny Park.

The Hatters held off the Blue Wave by only four points to capture their seventh consecutive league crown. Darien defeated Danbury in a dual meet on Sept. 20 en route to a 17-0 regular-season finish.

Staples junior Henry Wynne finished ahead of Fairfield Warde senior Harry Warnick to win the individual title. Wynne posted a time of 15:37 in the 3.1-mile race, just two seconds better than Warnick, who also was the runner-up last year.

Danbury's duo of senior Tom Moore (16:17) and junior Nick Carlsen (16:18) finished third and fourth. Overall, Danbury, which has claimed 10 of the last 11 FCIAC crowns, finished with 54 points.

Completing the top five was McMahon senior Chris Madaffari (16:20). Darien's top runners were Charlie Baird (16:31) and Mike Johnson (16:46), who were sixth and seventh.

The Blue Wave's other top finishers were No. 10 Marshall Huffman (16:52), No. 14 Alex Ostber (17:02) and No. 21 Michael Coe (17:13)

In the girls race, Ridgefield won the team championship, even though the Tigers placed no one in the top five.

Sarah Guillaume and Caroline Carr were seventh and eighth for the Tigers, who won with a score of 56 points.

Greenwich, which featured individual champion Abigail Markowitz, finished second with 80 points. Last year's champion Wilton was third with 97 points.

Markowitz covered the 2.4-mile girls course in 14:55, defeating Westhill's Nicole Ambrosecchio by five seconds.

Completing the top five in the girls race were Wilton's Alosha Southern (15:07), Darien's Grace Loh (15:08) and Westhill's Claire Howlett (15:10).

The Darien girls finished fifth with 128 points. Following Loh was No. 22 McKinley Stauffer (16:07), No. 27 Ellen Bauer (16:12), No. 35 Katie Farren (16:28) and No. 40 Meredith Ott (16:44).

Defending champion Heather Moriarty of Fairfield Ludlowe was 18th (15:51).

In the boys race Staples (71), finished third followed by Ridgefield (122) and Trumbull (128) to complete the top five. Ahead of Darien in the girls race was No. 3 Wilton (97) and No. 4 Westhill (100).
