St. Joseph basketball star Timajh Parker has committed to Towson, the Connecticut Post reported Tuesday.

The 6-foot-7 forward, who earned all-state honors last season, helped lead the Cadets to the CIAC Class LL state championship, averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Pat Skerry recruited Parker at Pittsburgh and Providence before being named the head coach at Towson in April.

"He had confidence in me the whole way," Parker told the Connecticut Post. "He was faithful, so I decided I'd stick  with him."

Towson is a member of the Colonial Athletic Conference, which recently has sent two teams to the final four: George Mason and Virginia Commonweath

The Trumbull football team (2-0), which defeated Fairfield Ludlowe 35-8, has climbed to 11th in this week's New Haven Register top 10 state media poll.

Xavier (3-0, 13 first-place votes) leapfrogged Masuk (3-0, 12) back into the No. 1 spot. The teams may jockey for the top ranking all year.

Ansonia (3-0) climbed over New Canaan (3-0), which needed a strong fourth quarter to defeat Fairfield Warde 28-14, into the No. 3 spot.

Completing the poll are: No. 5 Hand (3-0), No. 6 New London (2-0), which routed Greenwich, 51-33, No. 7 Staples (3-0), No. 8 Windsor (3-0) No. 9 West Haven (3-0) and No. 10 Bunnell (3-0), which was unranked last week.

Staples, which rallied from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat McMahon 24-21 on a last-second field goal, also fell one spot.

Another FCIAC team - No. 15 Darien (3-0) - also is on the verge of cracking the top 10.
