The St. Joseph High School girls basketball team clinched the No. 2 seed for the FCIAC playoffs with a 62-38 victory over Greenwich.

Nancy Stablein scored 22 points, including the 1,000th of her career, for the Cadets, who finished the regular season 17-3 overall and 15-3 in the FCIAC.

St. Joseph tied Trumbull, but earned the higher seed based on their win over the Eagles and will host No. 7 seed Stamford in the quarterfinals of the FCIAC playoffs on Saturday at 5 p.m.. Undefeated Danbury is the top seed.

Jessica Jowdy scored 14 points and Jenn Vazquez added 11 for St. Joseph, which led 15-10 after the first quarter, then erupted for 27 points in the second period to open a 42-22 lead at the half.

Sabrina Rodriguez and Caroline Barrett each had eight points for Greenwich, which concluded the season at 4-16 and 4-14.

St. Joseph won the FCIAC title in 2009 and Trumbull won the championship last year.

The Trumbull girls basketball team defeated Harding 75-39 in its final tuneup for the FCIAC playoffs.

Erin Moore scored 21 points for the Eagles, who finished the regular season 17-3 overall and 15-3 in the FCIAC. The defending league champions claimed the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 Trinity Catholic in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

The game will be played at Fairfield Ludlowe at 2 p.m. because Trumbull is hosting the Class LL wrestling state championships this weekend.

Alexa and Amanda Pfohl each had 12 points for Trumbull, which led 16-6 after the first quarter, then erupted for 26 points in the second period to build a 42-18 cushion at halftime.

Neish Franco had 20 points for the Presidents, who finished the season at 5-15.

In the other FCIAC playoff matchups, Danbury hosts No. 8 Darien and No. 4 Wilton entertains No. 5 Norwalk.

The St. Joseph boys basketball team rolled to a 71-41 victory over Greenwich on Wednesday to remain undefeated.

James Jennings scored 22 points for the Cadets, who improved to 18-0 and 16-0 in the FCIAC, while Patrick Hopkins and  Timajh Parker each added 16 for St. Joseph.

Greenwich lost for the fifth time in six games and dropped to 11-7 and 9-7.

The game was close early as St. Joseph only led 18-16 after the first quarter, However, the Cadets outscored the Cardinals 16-8 in the second period to open a 36-24 lead at the half.

St. Joseph then put away the contest with a 21-5 eruption in the third as the Cadets took a 55-29 cushion into the  final period.

Sem Kroon scored 10 points and Dan Guise added nine Greenwich.

Jennings put on a show from long range, making six 3-pointers for the Cadets, who are two games away from an unbeaten regular season.

Travis Fonseca scored 16 points and Mike Yerina added 11 Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as the Trumbull boys basketball team suffered a damaging 51-46 loss to Harding.

The Eagles dropped to 9-9 overall and 8-8 in the FCIAC while the Presidents (4-14) won for only the fourth time this season.

Tyshawn Mullings scored 16 points and Steven Walker added 14 to pace Harding.

Trumbull jumped out to a 12-6 lead after the first quarter, but Harding answered by outscoring the Eagles 17-9 in the second period to take a 23-21 halftime lead. The second half was close throughout.

Trumbull is in a five-way tie for ninth with Danbury, Fairfield Ludlowe, Fairfield Warde and Staples.
