Trumbull Boys Need to Upset Trinity

To have a chance to clinch an FCIAC playoff spot, the Trumbull High School boys basketball team will have to beat Trinity Catholic at home on Wednesday in its regular-season finale.
It is a tall order, but at least the Eagles gave themselves a chance with a 46-36 victory over Fairfield Ludlowe on Monday.
Remarkably, eight teams are still in contention for the final three playoffs, meaning coaches will be scrambling for scores as the Trumbull assistants did following Monday's contest (although Ludlowe and Staples are alive only mathematically at 8-9 and may need a miracle to get in).

Stamford (10-7) posted a huge 77-72 win at Bassick on Monday and is alone in sixth place. Trumbull (10-9, 9-8) is among a longjam of five teams at 9-8, a group that also includes Bridgeport Central, Danbury, Greenwich and Fairfield Warde.
In other games with playoff implications on Wednesday, Stamford visits Harding, Central closes at McMahon, Danbury hosts Greenwich in a virtual playin game and Warde entertains undefeated St. Joseph.

While stranger things have happened, it's hard to imagine Stamford losing to Harding, which is coming off a 52-47 loss to a one-win New Canaan team.
The Greenwich-Danbury winner will get its 10th win and Central will as well barring an upset to the four-win Senators, who are coming off a 64-62 victory over Staples.
Trumbull would then need to upset Trinity Catholic to join the group of 10-win teams. If form holds, the Greenwich-Danbury winner would join Central with 10 wins.
Trumbull loses tiebreakers to Stamford and Bridgeport Central. However, the Eagles beat Danbury and Greenwich, so they would be in good shape for the eighth spot if they could upset the Crusaders.
Trumbull would lose a tiebreaker to Warde if the Mustangs somehow were to knock off the top-ranked Cadets, who are looking to complete a 20-0 regular season.
