During the regular season, theboys basketball team routed Bridgeport Central 92-56 in perhaps its best all-around effort of the season.
The Cadets (18-0) take on the eighth-seeded Hilltoppers (10-8) again on Saturday at Fairfield Ludlowe at 7 p.m. in the final game in the FCIAC quartefinals.
But if there is any chance St. Joseph might look past Central, all coach Vito Montelli has to do is remind his players of what happened in the FCIAC quarterfinals last year when the Cadets fell to Stamford after squandering an 18-point lead in the fourth quarter.
That actually was the last game the Cadets have lost as they have won 25 games since. St. Joseph regrouped to win the Class LL state championship last season and completed a 20-0 regular season this year with a 64-39 victory over Fairfield Warde on Wednesday.
It marks only the second time St. Joseph has gone undefeated in regular season in Montelli's 50 years as coach. The other time came in 1990, when the Cadets made it to the Class L finals before losing to Bristol Central 66-65 at the buzzer.
In other playoff action Saturday, No. 3 Ridgefield (13-5) takes on No. 6 Stamford (11-7) at noon, No. 2 Trinity Catholic (14-4) meets No. 7 Danbury (10-8) and 2 p.m..and No. 4 Bassick (13-5), the defending FCIAC champion,
