St. Joseph Girls Seek Playoff Spot Tonight

The girls basketball team looks to clinch an FCIAC playoff spot on Tuesday when the Cadets visit Westhill, which is battling for one of the final berths. Tipoff is set for 5:45 p.m.).
Tied for third in the FCIAC standings with Wilton, St. Joseph (13-3, 11-3) can assure itself of a top-eight finish with a victory over the Vikings.

St. Joseph rebounded from a 50-39 upset loss to Norwalk by hammering Bridgeport Central 61-27 on Friday to stay tied with Wilton atop the FCIAC East.
Trumbull, which already has clinched an FCIAC playoff appearance, visits Ridgefield in a 7 p.m. start.

The Eagles (14-2, 12-2) are one game ahead of Wilton and St Joseph in the battle for the No. 2 seed in the playoffs Trumbull defeated Greenwich 45-34 on Friday, struggling a bit more than expected against the Cardinals.
Ridgefield (6-10, 6-8) is coming off Friday's 65-46 win over McMahon. The Tigers need to split their final four games to qualify for the state tournament.
In boys action, top-ranked St. Joseph hosts Westhill and Trumbull is at Ridgefield in a pair of 7 p.m. tipoffs
The Cadets (12-0, 14-0) are coming off perhaps their best game of the season, a 92-56 drubbing of Bridgeport Central.
However, Westhill (10-4, 9-3) has been on a roll and also looks like an FCIAC playoff team. The Vikings defeated Staples 67-58 on Friday for their sixth straight victory.
Trumbull (7-7, 6-6) stayed in the FCIAC playoff race with a 53-52 upset of Greenwich on Friday. The Eagles are tied for 10th in the standings with Fairfield Warde, Stamford and Staples, one game out of a playoff spot.
However, beating Ridgefield on the road will be difficult. The Tigers (12-2, 10-2) rebounded from a 50-39 loss to Stamford by hammering McMahon 81-54.
Ridgefield holds the FCIAC's second-best record, one-half game better than Bassick and Trinity Catholic.

The St. Joseph and Hillhouse boys basketball teams remained first and second in this week's New Haven Register top 10 media state poll.
The Cadets (14-0) collected 16 of the 18 first-place votes with the Academics (16-0) garnering the remaining two.
The top eight spots remained unchanged as Northwest Catholic (14-1) is third, followed by New London (14-2), Kolbe Cathedral (16-0), Career (15-0), Hartford Public (15-0) and Windsor (14-1).
There was some movement at the bottom of the poll, however, as Crosby (14-2) and Enfield (15-0) enter at ninth and 10th, respectively, after being unranked last week.
Wilby and Trinity Catholic, which was upset by Fairfield Warde 59-54, dropped out.

Rebecca Buck and Callie Gonski each scored two goals Monday to lead the Staples-Trumbull girls hockey team to a 7-4 victory over West Haven at the Shelton Rinks.
Linsey Furman, Stephanie DiCostanzo and Jessie Lapisto also scored for Staples-Trumbull, which improved to 4-13.
Morgan Maliff, Julia Consorte, Alyssa Maddern and Alyssa Woosley tallied for West Haven, which dropped to 4-13.
The Wreckers built a 7-2 lead after the second period before allowing a pair of goals in the final stanza.
